Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-President Ismail Omar Guelleh inaugurated a state-of-the-art technology park on Monday, marking a milestone in Djibouti’s drive to become a regional digital hub.
Developed by TO7 Network in partnership with global consortium Wingu Africa, the park features a dual facility: a fiber optic submarine cable landing station and a highly secure data center.
Built on the site of Djibouti’s former slaughterhouse, the landing station is equipped to handle up to five fiber optic submarine cables, serving as a critical gateway for international telecommunications and internet traffic.
Notably, the facility supports Google’s global internet infrastructure, enhancing connectivity in the region.
The accompanying data center is designed to securely house digital information, supporting a range of sectors in the digital economy. With plans for 60% of its 500 KVA energy needs to be met through solar power, the project underscores sustainability alongside technological advancement.
President Guelleh highlighted the park’s economic and technological impact, calling it a “major step in modernizing Djibouti’s infrastructure and fostering global investment.” He also emphasized the project’s role in creating jobs, generating tax revenue, and improving international connectivity.
The new facility enhances Djibouti’s position in the global digital economy while reinforcing its ambitions to become a leader in technology and innovation in Africa.
